Puerto Banus, the luxury spot-to-be in Marbella
Situated to the south-west of Marbella, Costa del Sol, Spain, Puerto José Banús, or simply Puerto Banús, is a world-known marina with an awesome microclimate and an average annual temperature of 18 C. Beloved by the jet-set from all over the world, it was built back in the 70s of the XX century, in the years of the development splendor of Marbella and has retained its relevance since then. It was designed as a luxury marina and a posh open-air shopping center around a typical Mediterranean village and remains quite the same nowadays with the only difference that the area has undergone some real estate changes and a lot of luxury villas in Marbella and nightclubs were built. With more than four and a half million visitors with many top celebrities and royal families members among them, Puerto Banús is an archetypal fashionable summer destination along with Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo.
Puerto Banus is not a backpacker place at all. The exuberant inauguration of the marina in the 70th was attended by Aga Khan, Roman Polanski, Hugh Hefner, Princess Grace of Monaco and Prince Rainier and other 1700 guests. Twenty two kilos of beluga caviar were served by a troop of 300 waiters during that night with young Julio Iglesias singing. Puerto Banús millionaire parties held nowadays in the bars, clubs, discos and sometimes in the boutiques match in glitter and luster with the opening and are frequented by stars from all over the world.
The berths of Puerto Banús cover 15 hectares and hold 915 boats between 8 and 50 meters many of which belong to the richest people of the world. Many travelers pass by glimpsing towards the sea hoping to catch the Luna of Roman Abramovich or the boat of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Salmán bin Abdulaziz. Others prefer to go for some Marbella activities like surfing, paddle-surfing, golfing, cycling between Marbella, Puerto Banús and San Pedro de Alcantara, playing tennis, diving and scuba diving, rent a luxury car to explore the area or rent a yacht to go offshore and do some tuna fishing, enjoy a private dinner prepared by a chef or see a stunning sunset when sailing along the Costa del Sol coast.
Behind the berths, Puerto Banus streets host many top-notch restaurants serving the best champagnes and caviar, cafes and 95 lavish boutiques including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Jimmy Choo, Dolce & Gabbana and others and attract many tourists for luxury shopping, especially from the UK, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Some can also try their luck in the Marbella casino located right in front of Puerto Banús en Nueva AndalucÃa.
Puerto Banús as a vacation destination has something to offer to any type of guest of all the ages while the guests in their turn will just have to pay the price.
