Puerto Banus, the luxury spot-to-be in Marbella

Situated to the south-west of Marbella, Costa del Sol, Spain, Puerto José Banús, or simply Puerto Banús, is a world-known marina with an awesome microclimate and an average annual temperature of 18 C. Beloved by the jet-set from all over the world, it was built back in the 70s of the XX century, in the years of the development splendor of Marbella and has retained its relevance since then. It was designed as a luxury marina and a posh open-air shopping center around a typical Mediterranean village and remains quite the same nowadays with the only difference that the area has undergone some real estate changes and a lot of luxury villas in Marbella and nightclubs were built. With more than four and a half million visitors with many top celebrities and royal families members among them, Puerto Banús is an archetypal fashionable summer destination along with Cannes, Nice and Monte Carlo.
Puerto Banus is not a backpacker place at all. The exuberant inauguration of the marina in the 70th was attended by Aga Khan, Roman Polanski, Hugh Hefner, Princess Grace of Monaco and Prince Rainier and other 1700 guests. Twenty two kilos of beluga caviar were served by a troop of 300 waiters during that night with young Julio Iglesias singing. Puerto Banús millionaire parties held nowadays in the bars, clubs, discos and sometimes in the boutiques match in glitter and luster with the opening and are frequented by stars from all over the world.
The berths of Puerto Banús cover 15 hectares and hold 915 boats between 8 and 50 meters many of which belong to the richest people of the world. Many travelers pass by glimpsing towards the sea hoping to catch the Luna of Roman Abramovich or the boat of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Salmán bin Abdulaziz. Others prefer to go for some Marbella activities like surfing, paddle-surfing, golfing, cycling between Marbella, Puerto Banús and San Pedro de Alcantara, playing tennis, diving and scuba diving, rent a luxury car to explore the area or rent a yacht to go offshore and do some tuna fishing, enjoy a private dinner prepared by a chef or see a stunning sunset when sailing along the Costa del Sol coast.

Behind the berths, Puerto Banus streets host many top-notch restaurants serving the best champagnes and caviar, cafes and 95 lavish boutiques including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Jimmy Choo, Dolce & Gabbana and others and attract many tourists for luxury shopping, especially from the UK, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Some can also try their luck in the Marbella casino located right in front of Puerto Banús en Nueva Andalucía.
Puerto Banús as a vacation destination has something to offer to any type of guest of all the ages while the guests in their turn will just have to pay the price.

With the growth of the flights volume and car trips in the last two decades, we have almost forgotten about all the other means of travel that can make a holiday pleasant and bring you to the desired point fast without having to wait for hours in the terminals and customs. One of them is the train that has plenty advantages over the airplane and wheel vehicles.

Europe Railways

1. Train is kids-friendly. When they are tired, you will not have to explain them they cannot get up a second and have to be fastened all the time. A simple coloring book and possibility of looking through the window will calm them down. In addition, you will also be able to use your time profitably working, reading, watching something without having to drive and be concentrated all the time. It is much more pleasant to be driven than drive all the time!

Kids in a Eurostar train

2. Train is family-friendly. You can gather up all your family and travel together close by unlike in a sedan car. Plus even the members of the family that rarely travel with you might join as it is a rare case when someone is afraid of traveling by train, unlike by plane.

3. Train is more adult-friendly than a plane. You will be able to stretch your legs and walk around a bit not being attached to your airplane seat. In some cases you can even go out when there is a longer stop.

4. Trains are known to be the safest means of transport. This statement speaks for itself, nothing to add.

5. Trains let you take more luggage. You will not have to worry whether your suitcase fits the airplane company standards and can be carried on.

6. Depending on the train category and your destination, train can provide you with the best value for money offer, especially if you do a small research before leaving and check the best deals online in sources like Eurail Travels publishing the latest Eurail Pass deals.

7. Trains reach the places the airplanes do not. Airports tend to be in the big cities and important spots of the countries, so in order to arrive at a smaller place you will have to change the means of transport anyway. More than that, pretty much often, the airports are within an hour drive from the city centre, while the train stations are normally within the cities and also can be found even in small towns and villages thanks to the longstanding train culture in Europe. Trains do not require such a huge infrastructure as the planes.

7. For ecology lovers, trains are more sustainable than planes and wheel vehicles.

Thira, colloquially-called Santorini, a contraction of Santa Irini (Saint Irene) whose cathedral is located in the village of Perissa, is a Greek group of islands in the Aegean sea situated circa 200 km from the mainland. It includes Thira, Thirassia, Aspronissi, Palea and Nea Kameni. The island complex is an active volcano and all the islands actually were born only thanks to the volcanic activity that has defined their romantic nature.

When planning a trip to Santorini, most travellers ask themselves where to go: Fira or Oia?
Here are some tips for this choice to be easier.

Fira, Santorini, Greece
Fira, Santorini, Greece

Both Fira and Oia are perched over the sea and caldera and offer fantastic views from different angles. They tend to say Oia is a more romantic option though all Santorini is known to be the place to be for couples for its stunning sunsets. The towns are pretty much the same in terms of architecture and general facilities.

Both villages have some options for eating out but Fira as the capital has more easy places suitable for any wallet. Both Oia and Fira have grocery stores and small markets.

Fira, again being the capital, offers easier car-renting and more options for public transportation having a bus station. The trip from the airport and the port is slightly shorter to Fira rather than to Oia, though the difference is only about 10 minutes. As a matter of fact, there are plenty of hiking tours from Fira to Oia.

For luxury villas on Santorini, both Fira and Oia offer you wonderful places, you just have to be fast and not to wait for too long. There are more travellers wishing to visit Santorini than it can get!

Known as the Europe´s oldest city, Knossos, a large archaeological site covering 22000 sq.m situated 6 km from Heraklion, Crete, keeps a lot of secretes. It is often associated with Minotaur, a creature with a head of a bull and a body of a man, a mythological son of the king Minos kept in the labyrinth. Th Minoan culture reached a peak of development between 1700 and 1450 BC, Knossos city-state suffered two earthquakes and was rebuilt twice and was discovered only in 1878 by Minos Kalokairinos. The excavation started only in 1900 by a British archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans.
The major spots of the ancient city are the Great Palace, the Little Palace, the Royal Villa, The Royal Sanctuary, the House of the high Priest and the Caravan Serai.
